Texas & Pacific #334 was the first engine owned by Tom Stamey with 10″ drivers. Tom reports it took 17 cars and 3 people up Roy Pickard’s grade at Tower 17. Additionally, it holds two track records for speed:

  1. Complete trip of all main line track in 12 minutes.
  2. Run from West Yard Junction to the Jack Harris Junction in 5 minutes flat.

Neither record has been broken.

The engine was built by a gentleman from Arkansas (name forgotten). The cylinder liners were misaligned and John Enders replaced them for Tom. Prior to that, the engine would hardly run. It ran like the wind after John fixed it. The engine was originally oil fired, but Tom converted to coal. Prior to selling the locomotive to a gentleman in Grand Prairie, TX, Tom installed all new valve gear.
